MuleSoft Architect job description:

Role Summary

The MuleSoft Architect is responsible for designing, governing, and delivering scalable integration solutions using the MuleSoft Anypoint Platform. This role translates business and technical requirements into robust API‑led connectivity architectures, ensuring secure, high‑performance, and reusable integrations across enterprise systems and cloud platforms.

The architect acts as a technical leader, setting integration standards, guiding development teams, and ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture and best practices.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture & Design

Design end‑to‑end integration architectures using MuleSoft Anypoint Platform, following API‑led connectivity principles (Experience, Process, and System APIs).

Define integration patterns, standards, and best practices for reuse, scalability, security, and performance.

Produce architecture artifacts (e.g., solution designs, sequence diagrams, API specifications).

Review and approve integration designs and technical solutions.

API Strategy & Governance

Define enterprise API strategy, lifecycle management, and governance models.

Design RESTful APIs using RAML/OAS, ensuring consistency and reusability.

Establish API versioning, documentation, and dependency management practices.

Ensure compliance with organizational security, data, and regulatory standards.

Platform & Infrastructure

Lead Anypoint Platform setup and architecture (CloudHub, Runtime Fabric, on‑prem).

Design high availability, disaster recovery, and scalability solutions.

Optimize performance, fault tolerance, and resilience of Mule applications.

Define CI/CD pipelines, deployment strategies, and operational models.

Leadership & Collaboration

Act as technical lead and mentor for MuleSoft developers and integration teams.

Collaborate with enterprise architects, cloud teams, security teams, and stakeholders.

Support pre‑sales or solution evaluations when required.

Provide technical guidance during delivery and post‑production support.

Quality, Security & Operations

Enforce secure API design and integration security (OAuth 2.0, JWT, TLS, client ID enforcement).

Define monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational KPIs.

Lead root‑cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Skills

Extensive experience with MuleSoft Anypoint Platform

Strong understanding of API‑led architecture

RESTful API design using RAML or OpenAPI

Integration with:

ERP systems (e.g., SAP)

CRM platforms (e.g., Salesforce)

SaaS and cloud services

Encryption, authentication, and authorization mechanisms

Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, Git, Azure DevOps)

Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)

Architecture & Integration

Enterprise integration patterns

Event‑driven and synchronous/asynchronous messaging

Data transformation (DataWeave)

Reusable assets and shared services design

Soft Skills

Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions

Leadership and mentoring capabilities

Strong analytical and problem‑solving mindset

Preferred Qualifications

MuleSoft Certifications:

MuleSoft Certified Integration Architect

MuleSoft Certified Platform Architect

Experience with microservices and container platforms (Docker, Kubernetes)

Experience in large‑scale or enterprise integration programs

Familiarity with governance tools and enterprise architecture frameworks

Typical Deliverables

Integration reference architectures

API specifications and documentation

MuleSoft design standards and guidelines

Technical solution designs

Platform configuration and deployment models

Reporting & Team Context

Typically reports to: Integration Lead / Enterprise Architect / IT Director

Works closely with: developers, architects, DevOps, cloud, security, and business teams
