Senior Java Backend Developer, Spring Cloud & OpenShift


Requirements

Assignment context 

Senior back-end development role within a multi-year programme delivering an integrated operational platform for a financial-services business domain. The resource will build resilient Java services, support containerised deployment and collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout the software-delivery lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain robust back-end services using Java, Spring Boot and Spring Cloud.

• Collaborate with front-end developers to integrate user-facing components with server-side logic.

• Implement and operate containerised applications using Kubernetes and OpenShift.

• Contribute to continuous-integration and deployment pipelines and associated quality controls.

• Design and optimise database interactions and SQL-based components.

• Develop automated tests and participate in unit, integration and behaviour-driven testing.

• Work with business and technical stakeholders to clarify requirements and align delivery objectives.

• Contribute to performance tuning, technical documentation and continuous improvement.

Mandatory requirements

• Minimum of five years of professional back-end development experience.

• Strong Java development capability with Spring Boot and Spring Cloud.

• Practical experience with Kubernetes and OpenShift.

• Good SQL knowledge and experience working with enterprise databases.

• Strong understanding of automated testing, unit testing and behaviour-driven testing.

• Experience collaborating within Agile, cross-functional software-delivery teams.

• Proactive mindset and ability to learn and adapt in a technically demanding environment.

Preferred / differentiating requirements

• Experience with Jenkins, Git, SonarQube, XL Deploy and XL Release.

• Knowledge of Oracle Exadata or comparable high-performance database platforms.

• Experience with microservices, cloud integration and performance optimisation.

• Previous experience in financial services or another regulated industry.
